Duck Tape Creative Competitions And Contests: Stuck In Traffic

Whether a person calls it duck or duct , duct tape has found a million different uses over the years. There are even entire books documenting the different ways to use duct tape other than taping ducts. As people find more and more uses for it, various groups and organizations have been holding different types of duck tape contests. Some examples of different types of duck tape contests are iPod covers, duct tape handbags, and in the case of a duck tape contest like the duct tape prom, duct tape clothing.

Maybe the most ornate duct tape competition was the Stuck in Traffic duck tape contest. In 2002, Duck Brand hosted a duck tape contest in which creative individuals used different colored duct tape to decorate their cars, trucks, and vans. The Stuck in Traffic contest was a big hit with families and artists, and the winner of the duck tape contest, one of the trucks converted into a duct tape dragon Dragonracer, took home a cool $2,500.

Other fun duck tape contest designs were one of the cars dressed as the Cheshire cat of "Alice in Wonderland" fame, one of the vans expertly decked out as a painting by Vincent VanGo, and a number of cars made out to look like the American flag. But even before Stuck in Traffic, Henkel Consumer Adhesives, makers of Duck Brand duct tape, had already created a duck tape contest that did more than just turn cars, trucks, and vans into duct tape monsters.

Stuck at Prom takes the same concepts for the duct tape contest as Stuck in Traffic and applies them to clothing. Instead of taping up cars or trucks or vans, young men and women from around the country create elaborate prom dresses and tuxedos out of multicolored duct tape. Some of the duck tape contest entries are, of course, real eyesores, but the students that put a lot of time and effort into piecing their duct tape costumes together have created some really fantastic new looks. The contest has been so successful that major purse manufacturer Love My Bag has created multicolored duct tape handbags which mimic the unique clothing.

The winning couple in the Stuck at Prom duck tape contest receive $3,000 and an additional $3,000 donated to their the school. The competition for the duct tape prom has been fierce since its first year in 2001, with hundreds of spectacular entries every year. Like its cousin Stuck in Traffic, Stuck at Prom has also seen its fair share of copycat contests and shows. Many cities are starting to hold their own annual Duct Tape Prom with its own duck tape contest.

Many engineers, including those from NASA, say that duct tape is one of the most versatile substances on the planet. But it's not just a handy tool, it's a great artistic instrument as well. With the different kinds of duck tape contest like Duck Brand's own Stuck at Prom and Stuck in Traffic popping up all over the country and all over the world, the use of duct tape outside of the conventional isn't going away any time soon. It is really incredible all the different things a few simple rolls of tape can make.
