Duck Tape Scholarship Competitions And Contests: Stuck At Prom

Most people are aware that duct tape can fix anything. But can duck tape really make anything? Or is it just one of those handy things to have around. Just imagine wearing a duck tape prom dress or a duck tape tuxedo for the Stuck at Prom scholarship contest.
Duck brand duct tape has more than one duck tape contest a year, and Stuck At Prom is the most common of the duck tape contests. This scholarship contest is for students ages 14 and up, who will attend prom. In order to enter, the students must make something from duck tape, like a duck tape prom dress, duck tape tuxedo or something simpler such as a duck tape flower or duck tape jewelry. Students must wear their duct tape creations to prom and submit a picture of themselves wearing the clothing to the Stuck At Prom website. The top ten contestants are voted on by online voters, and the winning couple receive a $3,000 cash scholarship (each) for college, while their high school is awarded $3,000. The runners-up are awarded sums $2,000 and $1,000, and their high schools also receive that amount.
The Stuck At Prom contest is not the only duck tape contest. Other contests include the Stick or Treat Contest, which centers around Halloween, encouraging people to make costumes of duck tape for a $500 reward. Both the Stuck At Prom and the Stick or Treat duck tape contests are chances for students to tap into their creative side by utilizing their fashion skills. Fashion is important to students, and with the advent of TV, creativity has slowly begun to dissipate. A duck tape contest is a different way to do prom, prom clothing, and duct tape.
So, why a duck tape contest? Not only can students have fun making their own clothing, but it's less expensive than the typical prom dress and tuxedo. Making a duck tape prom dress and a duck tape tuxedo is a fun experience that can also allow parents to supervise their children a bit as they get ready for the prom. Clearly, the benefits of a duck tape contest for outweigh any disadvantages. Additionally, duck tape is no longer in just a boring silver. A number of stores sell not only colored duct tape, but patterned duct tape, perfect for the duck tape contest.
There are more than 20 different colors of duck tape that are available to use in a duck tape contest Michaels, Ace Hardware, Walgreens, and Wal-mart, all sell colored duck tape including the standard silver-grey, white, black, red, yellow, green, blue, aqua, various fluorescent colors, beige and brown. That way, whether the duck tape contest contestants are going for classy, original, unique, or outrageous, it can be done.
Previous duck tape contest contestants have copied popular fashions or completely designed their own outfits. Some of the couple's outfits have matched, and others are simply complimentary. One couple who entered the duck tape contest used mostly white duck tape with black, red, and yellow accents. When the couple stood together, their clothing formed a star. Obviously, no one else will have that dress or tux. Though it may be a bit hard to dance in the duck tape tuxedo or dress, it's worth the effort.
It's time to get those creative juices flowing. And for high school students, the fact that it's a scholarship contest doesn't hurt, either. College is expensive, and any help is worthwhile.
